A Murphy Marketing VIP Day in the Life

This blog post is for two types of people:

  1. The stressed out business owner/team member who needs your company’s messaging, website, email campaign, etc. to be revamped quickly, and who’s panicking because no marketing agency can give you the fast-tracked timeline you need

  2. The messaging expert who is tired of their same old schedule they’ve always stuck to. You’re looking for a new outlook on how to tackle your clients biggest needs in an effective, creative way.

If that’s you…you’re in the right place. Keep reading and we’ll show you how a one-day project timeline can actually work really well.

The basic setup is that we offer VIP days for clients who need help with their messaging ASAP. This is a one-day, full-focus situation. Here’s what it looks like.

9 AM - 12 PM - “Get to know you”

Good morning! Every VIP day begins with an extra large cup of coffee and excitement for what we’re going to create. Katie and our lead writer Claire (there for proofreading and quality control!) will hop on a call with you to play a game of “20+ questions” to get to know you and your business.
We want to understand why you’re passionate about your business and your clients, and we want to hear it in your own words.

Maybe your company is thriving and you want to capitalize on that success by making your messaging as good as it can be, or maybe your company is struggling and you’re hoping to use your messaging as a pathway into better days. Either way, we want to know all about it and why your business does what it does.

This is the time to get excited, knowing that your messaging will literally be ready to use by the end of the day.

Here’s why that matters:

A standard wait time with most marketing agencies is about a 6 week period from when you decide to work with them to when your project actually begins.
Once the project is underway, it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months until you see the deliverables you signed up for!
At Murphy, our typical timeline is a 2-4 week waiting period and then a 2 week sprint to get your project completed for you. While that’s an improvement,  say you’re on a tight deadline. You’ve been trying for a week to come up with the words you need, but it still hasn’t happened.

The idea for VIP days was born out of this exact dilemma, which asks the question - What do you do when you need marketing help within a matter of days?
Your answer will come at the start of our day together - you sit down on a zoom call and tell us everything you can about what your company does. Then, walk away and know that we’re already dreaming up what your company’s new words will be.

12:00 PM - 3:30 PM - Drafting session

We’ll break for lunch, and you can take the afternoon to feel your shoulders relax with the knowledge that your messaging dilemma is handled.
Meanwhile, Katie and Claire will be hunkered down, developing your brand message guide, homepage, or email campaign so that they reflect exactly what your company is trying to say.

Rather than working on a handful for different deliverables throughout the course of the day, Katie’s calendar is completely cleared on your VIP day. She won’t be taking phone calls or answering emails that don’t pertain to your message. The goal is to be 100% locked in on your message for that single work day, because that’s all the time we have.

We love the tight-deadline, breakneck pace that we get to experience when we do a VIP day. In Katie’s words, “I think there's also an element of adrenaline that comes into play when I literally have 8 hours to complete a pretty big task. It's a real challenge and a little bit crazy to say that I can condense something that normally takes 2 weeks to process into one day. But I really enjoy it and have done it now for several different clients in all different industries. It's a really great service for the right client.”

3:30 PM - 4:30 PM - Live review

This is your last responsibility of the day! In our second zoom call, we’ll go through the material we created for your company and do a live-review with on-the-fly edits and decisions.

More than any other part of the day, this is the most important time to be decisive and prepared to give feedback. We depend on your thoughts so much, because at the end of the day we’re creating your message - not ours!
Some clients thrive when they can take time to really mull over the work we’re doing with them throughout the course of 1-2 months. If that’s you, or you know that you’re going to need a couple days to sleep on it before you can give us a confident green light, we would suggest sticking to our regular timeline. You’ll get the same product, but with more space to process.

Now, if you’re the kind of person who knows what they want and you can be crystal clear when sharing your opinions - a VIP day could be your sweet spot. You’ll enter this meeting unsure of your company’s message, and an hour later you’ll emerge with the deliverables you need and clarity in the areas where you’ve been stuck

4:30 PM - 5:00 PM - Next steps

Katie will evaluate next steps and follow up with you in the coming days to ensure that you have all you need to move forward with confidence!

Don't let the question "What if my business is too complicated for anyone to understand in ONE phone call?" stop you from reaching out.

In our initial phone call about a potential VIP day, we’ll talk through any reservations or questions you may have.

Understanding complicated messages and businesses is what we do - so you’re in good company. We’ll never claim to be an expert in your industry, but that’s why we depend on you to confirm that the words we choose reflect your company well!
