Baby you’re a firework… or are you?

It’s nearly the 4th of July - and who doesn’t love a good firework show? Whether you’re watching fireworks bloom in the sky next to Cinderella’s Castle at Disney or in your own backyard, there’s something enchanting about the surprise of those bright colors above your head.

Have you ever read a book or seen a movie that gave you that same feeling? What about a short story, poem, or commercial? What about a post on social media from your favorite company? It gets a bit harder to access that enchanted feeling when we move from actual fireworks, to books and movies, and then down to short sales captions we encounter, either on instagram or in the emails that flood our inboxes every morning.

But at Murphy Marketing, we believe that your copy can be magical like fireworks on the 4th of July.

Look, we know it sounds cheesy, but hear us out.

There’s nothing better than feeling like you’re a part of something bigger than yourself, like the world around you is full of opportunity and wonder - right? That’s why we love fireworks so much. And those same feelings can make or break your copy, too.

When your clients open an email from you that only talks about you, they may feel a pit in their stomach rather than inspiration to buy what you’re offering.

You might think it's a great idea to talk about yourself, because to you, your story is interesting and inspiring. And while that might be true, it's not going to cut it for your customers. Because while you’re feeling inspired by your own story, they’re wanting to feel inspired by their own story. Your story can only take them so far.

Their story can take them in a dozen different directions. And you can make that happen by simply flipping the script.

The next time you write an Instagram caption, make your customer the hero of the story rather than yourself.

Write it in such a way that anyone who reads it could feel like the main character in a story where your unique offering will get them to where they need to be.

It may not sound all that magical, but when the right client sees the story they want to live reflected back to them on the page, their heart will do a backflip from excitement.

Try it out, see how it goes, and let us know! If it's a great success, we want to hear about it! And if you try and fail, we want to hear about that too, and maybe even find a way to help you create that magic copy you’re looking for.
